Single Cover Shoot
I had the honour to capture my dear friend Jason aka YSS for his album cover. This started out as a normal fun experimental shoot with basically no plan at all. I knew I wanted to try out some technical things with my camera like the focus and lighting. The background I created by taking a mattress cover and somehow taping it to a wall outside my house. I wanted a clean background and still have the beautiful natural light from outside.
It wasn’t a long shooting day but it ended up being one of my favourite shoots of all time. I love everything about it, from the colours, to the styling and the lighting, as well as the blurred effect that I created while playing with different camera settings. Everyone could give their input and ideas and I love nothing more than a good collaboration.
My friend Hanna Siegrist is a hair and makeup artist and I invited her to come experiment with us. We wanted the makeup to be simple yet have a little bit of drama. The hair was a very random decision. I saw a photo of a man with spikes on his head and I loved the idea of rounded spikes just to add some texture and drama to the whole thing and that’s what we tried to do with the resources we had.
One of my favourite happy coincidences was the fact that another friend passed Jason the lighter and I saw her hand through the lens. The colours of her nails fit so well with everything that I asked her to grab his face.
Another happy coincidence was that we took photos while smoking, which in the end fit perfectly with the title of the song he used the photos for called “Rauche Fein” or roughly translated “Smoking Nice”.
